John McHale went on to describe the benefits he has found in his professional life and health since learning Transcendental Meditation a year ago.

John has noticed that he is more resistant to the stresses of a very demanding career. He has responsibility for the management of around 30 projects—any one of which can be as large as a million square feet—at every stage of development, including pre-purchase feasibility, the planning process, and the construction phase right through to occupation by the customer.

''One of the dramatic effects in my day to day life is my improved attitude to work and ability to cope with pressure. The current nationwide employment atmosphere can be fearful and stressful and I now realise how much this was impacting on my life and health. I am absolutely convinced that the reduction in the effects of stress that I have experienced in the past year is entirely down to the regular practice of Transcendental Meditation.

''I do still experience stress, but it doesn't seem to define me and I am better placed to manage its impact. As a result, I'm clearer and more logical in the way I go about my work.''

He also notices that he has more energy to enjoy leisure time and sport.

''The fact that my physiology is more stress free has led to improvements in other areas of my life. For example, in leisure activities, my asthma, although only mild, seems to have improved and my body generally feels physically stronger, and I have more energy for sport particularly after a long day at work.''

John has become a regular participant on TM residential courses, which he describes as a wonderful way to enhance the benefits of his twice daily practice. Beginning with a 'first timers' weekend at Maharishi Garden Village in Rendlesham, Suffolk, last June, he has taken five such courses, including the Young Meditators' Conference in Croatia last September organised by the David Lynch Foundation UK. Most recently, he took a course taught by Dr Peter Warburton, Chairman of Maharishi Foundation UK, at Maharishi Garden Village.

Next on his agenda? He plans to take the advanced Transcendental Meditation Sidhi programme course. He is also now advising the Maharishi Peace Palace project in Rendlesham, using his professional skills as a project manager.
