Global Women's Organization for Total Knowledge Translate This Article
19 September 2012
Among countless numbers of people fleeing African countries ravaged by decades of war, violence, and terror, many have sought refuge in nearby Uganda. A project sponsored by the David Lynch Foundation is helping refugees in Uganda and other African countries overcome the devastating effects of post-traumatic stress (PTSD) through offering instruction in the Transcendental Meditation programme.
Extensive scientific research on Transcendental Meditation has documented its many benefits including the ability to reduce stress-related disorders and promote mental and physical health.
Ms Judith Nassali, director of Transcendental Meditation programmes for women in Uganda, has been instructing women refugees in the technique who are participating in the David Lynch Foundation project.
Many of the women have found extraordinary positive results through the programme.
'Meditation helped me to feel peace inside again,' said one women from Sudan. 'My mind can function again. I can sleep again. TM has saved me,' said another.
