One of the most well-established programmes in Latin America utilizing Transcendental Meditation is Hogares Claret, a network of rehabilitation centres based in Colombia.
A Transcendental Meditation (TM) teacher involved in the programme recently gave an update on Hogares Claret's progress and described the services it offers. He spoke of the rehabilitation's use of alternate therapies including Transcendental Meditation and the advanced Transcendental Meditation Sidhi programme.
The focus of Fundacion Hogares Claret is on rehabilitation. The centre 'provides rehabilitation treatment to people with drug addiction and social risk and social behaviour problems', the teacher said.
In addition to caring for thousands of underprivileged children in Colombia, the foundation also provides services to children in other parts of Latin America, including many countries in the Caribbean.
In the beginning, the founder of Hogares Claret used traditional therapeutic methods, but, according to the TM teacher, 'ten years ago [he] saw a way to change and improve the traditional therapeutic approach applied in rehabilitation programmes, introducing yoga, TM and the TM-Sidhi programme.'
Now, these approaches have proved so successful that Father Gabriel Mejia, founder and visionary leader behind Hogares Claret, is focusing a large part of the therapy around Transcendental Meditation and its advanced programmes.
The TM teacher remarked, 'One of the main ingredients of his rehabilitation programme is Transcendental Meditation. That's definitely a key ingredient and top priority.'
In addition, Father Mejia wants to establish a school for the children involved in the rehabilitation programme. The school will be open to children in need of therapy and rehabilitation, but also to underprivileged children in the area.
Father Mejia hopes to establish the school using Consciousness-Based Education, thus providing Transcendental Meditation for all students there.
