UK: Health authority grants Maharishi Foundation 'stakeholder' status

In early January this year, Maharishi Foundation UK was given 'stakeholder' status by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE)—the official body that evaluates treatment programmes for the National Health Service and provides detailed guidance to health professionals.

''This is a very significant step forward, as 'stakeholder' status means that we will be asked to comment when NICE are preparing guidance in areas in which we have expressed particular interest,'' says Sue Lincoln, Maharishi Foundation's representative with NICE and a practitioner of Maharishi Ayur-Veda health care.

''All the more important is that the remit of NICE has been extended to include health education, since it was recently merged with the Health Education Authority.

''With the extensive scientific research on the benefits of Transcendental Meditation in the field of health, we are looking forward to having detailed discussions with NICE and showing that the technique can have a major impact on improving the health of the nation.''
