Dan Burks, Vietnam veteran, shares his reflections about the wounding influence of Post-Traumatic Stress (PTS) on servicemen and -women and the Army's overall battle readiness.
Mr. Burks believes that the problem of PTS can be most effectively addressed through the Transcendental Meditation program.
Mr. Burks describes PTS: ''It takes your life away, just like losing a limb. You are wounded spiritually, psychologically, and physically.'' Further, he says, the wounds of PTS are not limited to the individual. They affect the ''mission capability'' of families, whole units, and even countries.
Mr. Burks holds that Transcendental Meditation is the most cost-effective way to treat PTS: ''You're not going to have to buy drugs for the rest of your life. The benefits come from within.''
