Third annual 'Change Begins Within' benefit gala for David Lynch Foundation - 3 December 2011, Los Angeles

23 October 2011
The third annual 'Change Begins Within' benefit gala for the David Lynch Foundation is planned for December 3, 2011 at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The event includes a ''Conversation and Performance'' session featuring Ellen Degeneres, Russell Brand, and David Lynch, and other special guests. The event will benefit the Foundation's programmes ''empowering veterans and underserved youth to overcome traumatic stress through meditation''.
David Lynch Foundation Soldiers returning from combat in Afghanistan and Iraq and their families, as well as underserved youth living in violence and poverty, often suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), called the ''black death of the 21st century.'' This living nightmare fuels violent, impulsive behavior; substance abuse; acute anxiety; manic depression; the inability to hold a job or stay in school; frayed family relations; and homelessness. In fact, more soldiers commit suicide each day than die in combat.
Hundreds of thousands of scholarships The David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace, a 501(c)(3) organization, has been a global leader in the fight against PTSD since 2005. The Foundation has provided scholarships for hundreds of thousands of at-risk youth, veterans and their families, and other underserved populations to learn the stress-reducing, health-promoting Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique.
Support from the public and private sectors The effectiveness of the TM technique has been documented at top medical schools, including UCLA, Stanford, Harvard, and Yale, and has received endorsements and support from private foundations and government agencies, including the National Institutes of Health, the General Motors Foundation, the Chrysler Foundation, the Kellogg Foundation, top veteran service organizations and military leaders, multiple school districts, and state departments of corrections.
