Operation Warrior Wellness is gaining great momentum since its launch on 13 December 2010, and already many US war veterans and their families are experiencing the profound benefits of practising the Transcendental Meditation Programme for alleviation of PTSD and other stress disorders.
The initiative is being led by Dr Sarina Grosswald and other leaders of the David Lynch Foundation, along with veterans including Jerry Yellin. It is gaining tremendous receptivity among individual veterans and organizations supporting veterans' issues, especially with regard to overcoming PTSD.
'So far with Transcendental Meditation practice, veterans have experienced rapid, profound relief from the deep-rooted trauma associated with PTSD,' commented Dr Adam Pressman, Director of Video Productions at the David Lynch Foundation. He went on to explain that the most common tool for treating PTSD is pharmaceuticals, which veterans and health professionals acknowledge provide limited relief of symptoms, are usually prescribed for a lifetime, and often have significant side-effects. 'By contrast,' said Dr Pressman, 'Transcendental Meditation treats the root cause of the stress, will provide almost immediate relief, and is completely effortless and natural—with no negative side-effects.'
The first pilot study of the use of Transcendental Meditation for recent veterans of the Iraq war was recently accepted in Military Medicine, a premier journal in its field. Also, a project is underway to interview the families of veterans practising TM, to assess the broader impact of the technique on their lives. These interviews will ultimately be compiled into a video, to be available to the public.
