New initiatives in health, education for indigenous women and families of the world
Global Mother Divine Organization Translate This Article
21 November 2010
Many new initiatives for the health, well-being, and education of indigenous women, families, and children around the world resulted from the Global Mother Divine Organization's* international women's conference in Fairfield, Iowa, USA earlier this year.
Many indigenous women who attended the conference Restoring Balance: The Indigenous Grandmothers' Call to the Women of the World were inspired to implement Consciousness-Based programmes of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in their own communities and nations.
This led to new projects of the Global Mother Divine Organization in collaboration with the revered indigenous mothers of the world—including the Transcendental Meditation Programme in schools; women's preventive health and family health programmes, and mother-baby care; and approaches to alleviate depression and despair among young people.
Indigenous Global Mother Divine Organization. The idea to create this new organization led to the launching of the Global Alliance of the Revered Indigenous Mothers. 'The purpose of the organization is to gather the indigenous women and allow them to promote this knowledge of Natural Law. This was greatly endorsed by the women who came to the October conference,'** said a leader of GMDO in the United States.
Transcendental Meditation Teacher Training Programme. Many First Nations women would like ladies in their communities to become Teachers of the Transcendental Meditation Programme, and many are interested in becoming teachers themselves. They want to have permanent teachers in their community, especially teaching young people. The mothers are eager to stop the rising incidence of depression and despair among their young people, and feel that Transcendental Meditation could be very useful in turning around this most unfortunate situation. 'They were impressed with all of our research, and found the underlying principles of Transcendental Meditation to be compatible with their indigenous worldview,' the GMDO leader said.
To fulfil this request, Global Mother Divine Organization will be offering a Transcendental Meditation Teacher Training Programme for Native American and First Nations women so that 'Indian Country' can be completely self-sufficient in their ability to provide this knowledge to their people.
Maharishi Ayur-Veda women's health programme for nurses on reservations. The indigenous mothers were also very interested in the GMDO Maharishi Ayur-Veda women's health programme, which is being launched through an accredited nursing school in Irvine, California, USA, in January 2011.
'The idea came up to create scholarships for nurses on the reservations, so they can participate in this online course in the Mother-Baby programme and the fundamentals of Maharishi Ayur-Veda natural health care. They can then bring this knowledge to their nursing schools and clinics on their reservations,' the GMDO leader said. Nurses are being identified now who will become eligible for the online training programme.
Diabetes research project, specifically for gestational diabetes. GMDO is working with three reservations on this project. 'Many of the women on the reservations who have diabetes, become so when they are pregnant; this in turn affects the fetus, such that the child is more susceptible to being diabetic later in life. Documenting the Transcendental Meditation Programme's ability to prevent the onset of this disorder could be a very significant support for the future health of the communities.' As a result of the grandmothers' support for this project, Tribal Council approval has been received to go ahead with the project on two reservations.
Creation of charter schools for girls on reservations The grandmothers were very impressed with the curriculum GMDO has developed, and with research on Transcendental Meditation showing improvement in learning skills and self-actualization.

* 'Mother Divine' refers to the nourishing, evolutionary power of Natural Law lively within all of creation and within the silent consciousness of everyone. The Global Mother Divine Organization, established in December 2007, is the ladies' wing of the Global Country of World Peace in 192 countries.
** The new initiative was mentioned by Kathleen McHugh, a First Nations women's leader in Canada, in her address at the Global Health conference in Ottawa, a month after the women's conference in Iowa.
