Speaking recently about the beneficial effects of Transcendental Meditation, Dr Robert Roth* said that providing experience of the Transcendent, the field of Transcendental Consciousness deep within the mind, awakening the supreme intelligence of Natural Law within oneself—'that alone is able to neutralize and normalize stress and trauma in a person's life'.
Dr Roth, who is Director of Expansion for the Transcendental Meditation Programme in the United States, pointed out that Transcendental Meditation is distinguished in accomplishing this, as shown by scientific research and the results of programmes utilizing the technique in different areas of life. 'It is the sun alone that can dispel all darkness,' Dr Roth said. He praised the great power of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes and Technologies of Consciousness in their ability to open the awareness to the Transcendent.
Stress in life has become so intense and concentrated that it is now labelled 'trauma' in the lives of both individuals and families, Dr Roth said. The brain and cardiovascular system are becoming 'traumatized' by the level of stress in daily life, and society has no solution to this problem.
Now, however, he continued, people are coming to realize that this ability of awakening to the Transcendent, the fourth state of consciousness,** the Unified Field, and the kind of transformations that take place in the brain during Transcendental Meditation are of paramount significance in overcoming stress. 'It is the experience of the Transcendent that can drive away any and all darkness, problems, or trauma in life.'
Dr Roth concluded: 'It is interesting at this time to see how everything is simplifying and coming into clearer focus; it is the one sun of the Transcendent that is able to dispel all the darkness.'
* Dr Roth was speaking on the 3 August Maharishi Global Family Chat, which is broadcast daily via Internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3. Podcasts of the daily Global Family Chat (audio track) are also now available for automatic download, via an RSS feed.
** Maharishi explains that beyond the three familiar states of waking, dreaming, and sleeping, are four higher states of consciousness&mdashTranscendental Consciousness (the fourth state of consciousness), Cosmic Consciousness, God Consciousness, and Unity Consciousness—each bringing a new dimension of physiological functioning, experience, knowledge, and fulfilment.

Global Good News comment: The David Lynch Foundation is responding to the needs for stress management and improving health in specific areas of society by making Transcendental Meditation available to at-risk populations—schoolchildren and students, American Indians, soldiers with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, the homeless, and prison inmates and staff.
