Participants in a recent Maharishi VedAroma course* held in Provence, France, learned about the benefits of essential oils, which have been used more and more extensively over the past 100 years, but have their roots in ancient times.
Although aromatherapy is a relatively new science, there are indications that 4,000 years ago essential oils were used in the Middle East and Egypt, said Dr Paul Gelderloos, National Director of Invincible Holland for the Global Country of World Peace, who took the course.**
'So it's a very old science in that respect, but especially in the last hundred years many more essential oils have been coming out,' Dr Gelderloos added.
Among the world's tremendous variety of plants, he said, only 400 or 500 have essential oils. In ancient times, it seems only about five to seven were used.
Now about 75 VedAroma essential oils are available.
The ancient Vedic Literature of India describes the powerful positive influence of herbs and herbal preparations, Dr Gelderloos said.
Essential oils are a powerful tool for health and well-being, he said.
In the past decades in France, many families had their own distiller, and they used essential oils to stay healthy. During the recent course, participants visited a local museum and saw photos of such distilleries, and also visited a large distillery.
Both in and out of the classroom, course participants felt fortunate to gain knowledge of essential oils from top experts in Maharishi VedAroma and Maharishi Ayur-Veda health care, Dr Gelderloos said.
In the coming days, Global Good News will feature the continuation of Dr Gelderloos's talk, including introductions and praise for the expert teachers of the course.
