VedAromas: Expert describes profound, holistic effect on physiology, mind, emotions

VedAroma essential oils help create health not only in the physiology, but also in the mind and emotions.
Dr Rosie Geelvink, Head of the Department of Aromatherapy at Maharishi College of Perfect Health in MERU, Holland, explained how the aroma oils work, as part of an announcement of a training course to be held this coming May.
One reason these pure essential oils have such a profound effect, she said, is that through the sense of smell 'the fragrant particles pass through the mucous membrane of the nose, and get transmitted as electrical stimuli directly to the limbic system.'
'The limbic system is the oldest part of our brain,' she explained, 'and that is the place where memories are stored, where emotions are stored, and where the fundamental functions of the autonomic nervous system are also stored—like breath rate, heart rate, digestive juices, sleep and wake mechanism, fight and flight response, and sympathy and antipathy.'
These functions are directly influenced by the fragrance we smell, and the effect 'is immediate, without the interference of our conscious mind'.
Dr Geelvink said that one might not even realize that an aroma has already had a positive effect on the subconscious level—'on the level of our emotions and our breath rate, heart rate'.
VedAroma essential oils not only offer benefits through the sense of smell, they may sometimes be added to massage oil or a bath, or in some cases can be taken internally.
Through these diverse channels—for example through the olfactory system and then to the lungs and blood; or through the skin and then to the blood—the essential oils 'cross the blood-brain barrier', Dr Geelvink said.
The small molecular structure of essential oils makes them uniquely able to address physiological imbalances 'not only from the physical level, but from the mental level, from the emotional level—which are often the cause of our physical diseases. So [this form of Vedic Aromatherapy] has a greatly effective psychosomatic approach', she concluded.
