The first study was detailed in a report published in the 12 June 2006 issue of Archives of Internal Medicine, one of the JAMA/Archives journals. It concluded that Transcendental Meditation (TM) may improve cardiac risk factors in patients with coronary heart disease.
A more recent study published in the winter 2007 issue of Ethnicity & Disease stated that Transcendental Meditation has a positive effect in patients suffering from congestive heart failures.
MedIndia reported, 'Ravishankar Jayadevappa from the University of Pennsylvania who headed this study said TM brings down the sympathetic nervous system activation linked with stress which is responsible for heart attacks. There is also a significant improvement in terms of survival rates.'
