Meditation may cut future heart disease risks

19 February 2006
On 19 February 2006 PakTribune.com reported:
A study conducted at the Medical College of Georgia in the US has shown that the Transcendental Meditation Programme is an effective means of lowering the risk of heart disease. The findings were presented at the Second International Conference on Women, Heart Disease, and Stroke, in Orlando, Florida.
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of health.
There were 36 participants in the study, all African-American girls, approximately 16 years old, and all at risk of future heart disease. The girls were divided into two groups. One group learned the Transcendental Meditation Technique, while the others received knowledge about a healthy lifestyle.
The pliability of the participants' blood vessels—which has been linked to coronary artery disease, bad cholesterol, and high blood pressure—was measured at the beginning of the study and again after four months. The group that had been practising the Transcendental Meditation Programme showed a 'significant' improvement in the ability of the blood vessels to contract and expand in comparison to the other group.
According to Dr Robert Schneider, MD, director of the Center for Health and Aging Studies in Fairfield, Iowa, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Transcendental Meditation Technique is 'easy to learn and doesn't require any particular religious, spiritual, or philosophical beliefs'.
The article reported that while Transcendental Meditation is not a replacement for medical care, 'There seems to be no downside to meditation.'
Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total
Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
