On 17 July 2005 ninemsn.com.au reported:
In a world where non-drug mind-body approaches to reducing blood pressure have not been capable of increasing lifespan, a new study has stunned the scientific community. New research published in the American Journal of Cardiology indicates that Transcendental Meditation may not only reduce blood pressure, but also lengthen one's life.
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of health.
Transcendental Meditation is a technique for giving the body deep rest and creating coherence in brain functioning, allowing individuals to experience a phenomenon known as 'restful alertness', which triggers the body's natural healing ability.
The new report is based on a review of data from two studies on TM and blood pressure. Dr Robert H. Schneider of Maharishi University of Management in Iowa and his team analysed the data that showed a correlation between the practice of the TM technique and lowered death rates among the study participants.
The two studies included 202 men and women, about 72 years old on average, who had pre-hypertension or mild hypertension. Participants in the two studies were followed for an average of 8 years, and a maximum of nearly 19 years.
Overall, men and women who practised Transcendental Meditation not only had lower blood pressures than those in the other groups, but were also 23 per cent less likely to die from any cause. In particular, they were 30 per cent less likely to die from cardiovascular disease, and 49 per cent less likely to die from cancer.
Dr Robert Schneider is the director of the Institute for Natural Medicine and Prevention, funded by the National Institutes of Health's National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. The 'integrated holistic' Transcendental Meditation technique does not have any harmful side effects, Schneider said.
Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total
Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
