by Dr. David Marks

7 April 2005
On 7 April 2005 WNBC.com reported:
A new study shows that the Transcendental Meditation Programme (TM) can lower blood pressure in black teens, and hopefully keep them from developing hypertension as adults. The article noted that African-Americans are at high risk for developing high blood pressure.
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of health.
According to the study published in the American Journal of Hypertension, two 15-minute sessions of Transcendental Meditation each day allowed black teens to lower their blood pressure.
WNBC quoted neurophysiologist Gary Kaplan as saying, 'There's some evidence to suggest that it is affecting the blood vessel tone itself, and it probably is. It seems also to be affecting the heart rate and the amount of oxygen we're taking in and breathing out.'
'There are so many forms of meditation but very few of them have had the analytical scrutiny by the scientific community to see if these types of physiological effects can be produced,' Kaplan told WNBC.
The article went on to mention additional benefits experienced by practitioners of TM. They interviewed math teacher Dr Brian D'Agostino who believes that TM could help his students both physically and psychologically.
'It's typical for them to encounter violence, drugs, a lot of pressure. They come to school, the school adds to the pressure, it becomes more academic, the need to succeed,' said D'Agostino. 'And the traditional academic programs are not coping effectively with stress.'
Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total
Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
