18 February 2005
On 18 February 2005 WebMD Medical News reported:
In a study involving 36 African-American girls around the age of 16, the Medical College of Georgia found that Transcendental Meditation is beneficial for treating heart disease. The results were reported at the Second International Conference on Women, Heart Disease, and Stroke.
It is a joy for Global Good News service to feature this news, which indicates the success of the life-supporting programmes Maharishi has designed to bring
fulfilment to the field of health.
The 36 girls involved in the study all had normal to high systolic blood pressure, or in other words, pre-hypertension. According to the article, pre-hypertension increases the risk of heart disease.
Prior to the experiment, the research team conducted blood vessel pliability tests on the participants. This was done because previous studies have demonstrated that African-Americans have less pliability in their blood vessels, and Transcendental Meditation (TM) has been shown to increase pliability.
As the article explained, the girls were divided into two groups. The first group was assigned to practice Transcendental Meditation for four months, the second to receive health education classes. After four months, both groups were given the blood vessel pliability test again. The group practising TM showed great improvements when compared to the group of girls who had taken health education.
Dr Robert Schneider, director of the Center for Health and Aging Studies in Fairfield, Iowa, said that TM, which was introduced to the US by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, is simple to learn and doesn't involve any religious beliefs. WebMD author,Miranda Hitti, also reported the many other scientifically proven benefits of TM including positive effects on women's health and on the immune system.
Every day Global Good News documents the rise of a better quality of life dawning in the world and highlights the need for introducing Natural Law based—Total
Knowledge based—programmes to bring the support of Nature to every individual, raise the quality of life of every society, and create a lasting state of world peace.
