The article profiles Michael Halley, a Maharishi University of Management graduate, who serves on the City Council in Fairfield, Iowa, USA and on the boards of several non-profit organizations, including the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce.

Michael has contributed substantially to the development of sustainable initiatives for the university and the city, an area of deep interest he first pursued as a biology major at MUM in the early 1990s.

Even though his schedule is packed, Michael is always full of energy and enjoys all his volunteering activities. 'The twice daily practice of the Transcendental Meditation Technique has helped me balance my thoughts and emotions, which means I can perform at my best even when dealing with the stress from managing all the responsibilities I've taken on,' he said.
