Maharishi desires Raam Raj in place of democracy
by Surendra Panwar

New Delhi, India
13 August 2004
'Democracy, since its genesis, has proven to be a football of problems. It has failed completely,' Maharishi said. He observed that democracy is nothing but an amalgamation of fools who are trying to cheat the people in the name of ever-eluding progress and growth. This system is propagating false ideas through a few parties, and through people who don't understand the consciousness of the society.
Maharishi said that the basic flaw in democracy is that the people taking care of governance have no knowledge of what suits the consciousness of the people of that particular society. For example, the education being imparted to the people of India is against the ethos and the spirit of the country.
He said that modern education only makes people slaves at the cost of their inherent qualities and consciousness. It only values employment without giving a thought to the fact that, 'Everybody is not meant for everything.'
He vowed to establish Raam Raj in democracy, and said that it is like establishing light in the darkness. Explaining the relationship between the Veda and its application, Maharishi said that the Laws of Nature that govern the universe are awakened in the Veda; and it is Vedic Education which awakens the Veda in every individual. The Vedas are eternal and Apaurusheya (not man made), he said.
Elaborating more on the concept of Raam Raj, Maharishi said that Raam Raj will be based on the specific values of four Varnas (classes of society: Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudras). He said that the Brahmins will follow the Vedic routine, the Kshatriya will take part in governance, the Vaishyas will create wealth, while the Shudras will be engaged in production. He said that it is wrong to call this system discriminatory and oppressive. 'Everyone has a role in this.'
In his address, Maharishi made special mention of Kshatriyas, who he said would be trained in Vedic Administration for the purpose of Global Raam Raj. He added that he soon would be establishing the Capitals of Raam Raj and Vedic Universities all over the world. In the same vein, he mentioned the recent statement of the Indian Vice President who said that the Vedas are the solution to all the problems.
