Conference to include sustainable agriculture experts: Alliance of Women Scientists and Scholars for a Better World

On 6 July—the final day of the Third Annual Conference of the Alliance of Women Scientists and Scholars for a Better World—leading experts and activists in sustainable agriculture and alleviating poverty will address the conference on the day's theme: Growing Pure, Healthy Food to Nourish Ourselves, Our Community, and Our Planet:

'Healthy Soil, Healthy Plants, Healthy People' ∙ Chief Scientist, Rodale Institute, Pennsylvania, USA ∙ PhD in Microbiology from Colorado State University, 1981 ∙ Founder of Soil Foodweb Inc ∙ Widely published author and speaker on the benefits of sustainable soil science ∙ Affiliate professor, Southern Cross University, Australia, and Maharishi University of Management, Fairfield, Iowa, USA
 Esther Ngumbi, PhD
'Envisioning an End to Poverty and Hunger for Women in Africa' ∙ Post-doctoral researcher, Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology, Auburn University, USA ∙ Chemical ecologist; integrated biological pest management expert ∙ Reviewer for African Journal of Food, Agriculture, Nutrition, and Development; Journal of Agricultural Science and Technology; Psyche: A Journal of Entomology; and Forest and Ecology Management Journal ∙ Founder of Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Partnerships in Kenya program, and Spring Break Kenya, a programme that is galvanizing young Kenyans into service ∙ Co-founder, Young Thinkers Kenya ∙ AAUW (American Association of University Women) International Fellow ∙ Clinton Global University Commitment mentor.
 Katrien van't Hooft, PhD 'Repeating Mistakes or Joint Learning? Effective Ways to Support Smallholder Farmers Based on Lessons Learnt in Dairy Farming in the Netherlands and Southern India' ∙ Dutch veterinarian, social scientist, author, and an independent consultant in the field of sustainable livestock development for poverty alleviation and food security ∙ She has worked with various farmers' organizations and ministries of agriculture in Latin America, as well as numerous programs in Africa and Asia.
 Pamela Warhurst, CBE 'The Power of Small Actions' ∙ Founder and Chair of Incredible Edible Todmorden, UK, a voluntary gardening initiative ∙ Community leader, activist, and environment worker ∙ Former Chair, Forestry Commission of Great Britain ∙ Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts & Manufacturing ∙ In 2005 she was appointed as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), for services to the environment.
The conference will be held at Maharishi European Research University (MERU) in Vlodrop, the Netherlands, 4-6 July.
