Dr Donka and Ivan Hodjeva, directors of the Transcendental Meditation programme in Bulgaria, recently gave an overview of the agriculture project in which they are growing 20 hectares of roses in the country's famous Valley of Roses.

This area produces the world's most highly prized roses, which are used in the production of essential oils and rose water.

The project is 100 per cent organic, Dr Donka Hodjeva said, and this year the yield of 13 tonnes of rose petals was three and a half times what was expected. From the petals, 8,500 litres of rose water and 1 kg of rose oil have already been distilled.

The reason for this success, she said, is the great attention they put on the roses, and the use of new organic methods. Soon this exquisite, pure organic essential oil and rose water will be available through Maharishi Ayur-Veda Products outlets.
