Recently Dr John Konhaus, Director of the Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture Institute, spoke about the latest developments in the field of agriculture.
First he defined what exactly Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture is and how it is different from both conventional and organic methods of agriculture.
'It really is the fulfilment of the science of agriculture,' Dr Konhaus said, 'because it takes the purity of organic agriculture and brings it to a supreme level of Vedic food . . . by enlivening the totality of natural law.'
Dr Konhaus remarked that food grown according to Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture standards nourishes the physiology, but also nourishes the spirit. He said the food itself infuses 'the vitality and nourishment of natural law on a deep spiritual level into the food, so that that food is capable of sustaining a nervous system that can support higher states of consciousness.'
Though the methods of growing according to Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture standards have been known for some time, in the past few months these standards have been fully applied for the first time.
'This was the first trial run of these procedures which were being done for the first time in the world and had been developed under Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's guidance over a period of ten years,' said Dr Konhaus.
A special series of Vedic procedures is applied at each stage of development throughout the life cycle of the plants, so the plants will be nourished and fully enlivened in all the different aspects of natural law, he explained.
The trial run is taking place in greenhouses in Maharishi Vedic City, near Maharishi University of Management in the United States, under the guidance of Dr Konhaus and other advisors. The university is taking careful notes throughout the process in order to scientifically gauge what differences there are between Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture and conventional agriculture.
Dr Konhaus elaborated, 'The faculty at Maharishi University of Management are following this project and are developing research protocols whereby we can test the food and see if we can distinguish these qualities and what it means for natural law to be fully enlivened in the food.'
The preliminary results seem promising, said Dr Konhaus. 'This is something so special coming to the field of agriculture.'
