Simple solutions to problems of modern agriculture: Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture

Dr Michele Caccia is one of four individuals appointed by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi to administer Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture worldwide. A participant in the recent Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture course in MERU, Holland, Dr Caccia points out that in spite of the problems in modern agriculture, simple solutions are at hand.

Dr Caccia said* that during the course, all the participants had been taken 'from problems to solutions' in the field of agriculture. They understood the problems of modern agriculture—the highly polluting procedures of chemical agriculture and the serious consequences of growing and eating genetically engineered food.

Many times they saw that despite the big problems created for the soil and for agriculture, there are always simple solutions—through organic agriculture, and in the principle of 'doing less and accomplishing more'.

One simple example, Dr Caccia said, was that with good management one can allow animals to graze in a way that stimulates plant growth, rather than reducing or destroying it. Also with the use of compost and compost tea, in a short time more arid land could be transformed to be green and fertile.
