New opportunities for students and local workers in St Kitts and Nevis are arising in the form of a proposed new Sustainable Living Agricultural College and related organic food production. Dr Richard Shelford has been discussing plans for these projects with leaders in education and agriculture in the Caribbean nation; he hopes to begin implementing them in September. The college would be associated with Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA.
Dr Shelford is a Teacher of Transcendental Meditation from Canada who is originally from St Kitts. He has visited St Kitts and Nevis three times in ten months, most recently in May and August.
In August he also met with one of three school principals who signed a letter of intent to introduce the Quiet Time/Transcendental Meditation Programme into their school.
At the end of August, this principal and some of the teachers from her school attended two introductory lectures which are part of the course for learning Transcendental Meditation. They will complete the course when Dr Shelford returns to St Kitts in the autumn, along with the other two principals and their teachers.
