Citing the conclusion of 293 studies on the value of organic agriculture, Dr John Konhaus, Raja (Administrator) of the Global Country of World Peace for California USA and an expert in Maharishi Vedic Organic Agriculture, reported recently that a global switch to organic farming would increase the world's food supply and result in security in food production, particularly in developing countries. Dr Konhaus referred to a recent paper published by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation which analysed the effects of organic agriculture for health of the individual and the environment.
Dr Konhaus mentioned several indications of the growing popularity of organic agriculture and the preference of consumers worldwide to use organic food products. In Brazil, the international food fair, BioFach, now in its sixth year, has grown yearly so the fair this October will be 30% larger than the previous year. Tens of thousands of visitors and exhibitors are expected, while four other countries will host BioFach fairs in the coming nine months. A bio-trade forum at the fair will discuss how developing countries can maximize sales of organic produce to the more developed, affluent nations (this is a central theme of the Poverty Removal Programme of the Global Country of World Peace).
Dr Konhaus reported that in the USA, organic food sales rose to seventeen billion dollars in the previous year, while in Great Britain, mothers are leading the collective trend for more organic food. According to a survey, 8 out of 10 mothers preferred to feed their families with organic food. Even less affluent families in Great Britain are purchasing organic food, and organic baby food sales have greatly increased, while non-organic baby food sales have declined. The Body Shop, a skin-care and cosmetic company founded in England, with 2200 stores in 57 countries, is collaborating with Colombian farming co-operatives who will supply organic palm oil from sustainable forests for use in Body Shop products.
In Germany, organic food sales increased 20% in the first half of 2007. Dr Konhaus also reported on increased sales of organic clothing as consumers are becoming more aware of the toxic chemicals in fabrics due to pesticides used in agriculture.
The Global Country of World Peace regards the growing preference for organic food and agriculture as a positive sign of increased coherence in world consciousness, as a result of all of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes to create global invincibility.
