On 10 May 2022 The Associated Press reported: A historically Black college in central Illinois named after Abraham Lincoln and founded the year the former President was assassinated will close this week, months after a cyberattack that compounded enrollment struggles due to the coronavirus pandemic. ... A GoFundMe campaign called Save Lincoln College was launched with a goal of raising $20 million but as of this week, only $2,352 had been raised. And Gerlach [Lincoln's president, David Gerlach] told the Chicago Tribune that the school needed $50 million to remain open.
