5 February 2014
On a recent visit to Italy, acclaimed filmmaker David Lynch, founder of the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace, spoke at a conference in Milan about Stress-Free Schools, gave a live presentation about the conference on a nationally broadcast television programme, and met with local people who practise Transcendental Meditation. Everywhere his message was the same: encouraging implementation of Consciousness-Based Education in schools to promote national peace, harmony, and prosperity.
In addition to fielding questions about the cinema during the on-camera television interview, Mr Lynch discussed topics of timely interest including the role of Transcendental Meditation and Consciousness-Based Education in creating global peace. He made use of the television venue to give the Italian audience a simple introduction to Transcendental Meditation, and to announce the conference on Scuola Senza Stress, or Stress-Free Schools. He planned to deliver an address at the conference on the importance of giving children the opportunity to have a complete education, one that develops their inner values as well as teaching them a variety of academic subjects.
During the conference, after the introduction by the provincial president of Milan, opening remarks by the Assessora of educational instruction (a member of the executive body responsible for education in the province), and two short videos on how the Consciousness-Based Education programme can turn schools full of children with serious difficulties into children interested in studying, Mr Lynch addressed the near capacity audience.
His talk, in the form of an interview conducted by conference organizer Roberto Baitelli, brought out the importance of stress-free schools and the positive effects of coherence produced in society by groups of students practising Transcendental Meditation and the advanced Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme. He painted a complete picture of creating national peace through one simple addition in school curricula.
An attendee commented that the most important aspect of the conference was for the audience to see the results of programmes that are in place around the world, and hearing how Consciousness-Based Education can be applied effectively in Italy.
After the conference Dr Lynch met with a group of local people who practise Transcendental Meditation in an informal question and answer session. To one question he replied that we need to enliven the level of peace that is unity in the midst of diversity, the field of pure consciousness which exists in every person.
