At the graduation of the recent Consciousness-Based Education training course at Maharishi European Research University in the Netherlands, a distinguished expert in Consciousness-Based Education from India addressed participants.
The 33 participants were from 21 countries around the world, all of whom came to learn more about Consciousness-Based Education and how to implement it in their home countries.
Dr Girish Varma, Chairman of the 148 Maharishi Vidya Mandir Schools Group in India, spoke at their graduation about the joys and responsibilities of running Consciousness-Based schools, giving advice culled from his years of experience.
He explained that the Consciousness-Based Education system, founded by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, 'develops the most important natural resource in the world, the intelligence and creativity of the students.'
'Consciousness-Based Education systematically develops the natural creativity and intelligence of students so that they can experience increasing success and fulfilment all the time.'
So many aspects of life improve through Consciousness-Based Education, Dr Varma said, highlighting a few, including awareness, intelligence, creativity, confidence, happiness, and motivation.
How can Consciousness-Based Education affect so many disparate parts of the student's life?
One of the keys is holistic brain functioning, Dr Varma explained. Through Transcendental Meditation, an essential element of Consciousness-Based Education, students enliven their total brain functioning and develop their inner consciousness. The improved functioning of the brain benefits all areas of life.
Maharishi explained years ago that the system is about Total Knowledge, Dr Varma said. When Total Knowledge prevails, then everyone can live life like the ocean. 'The waves go from this end to that end, and silence is maintained at the basis of each wave,' he said, describing Maharishi's principle. Through regular practice of Transcendental Meditation, 'silence is maintained at the basis of each action of everyone, and that is real human action. That is human thought; that is human understanding. For this effect we are teaching the science and technology of living, the science and technology of thought, ultimately the science and technology of Being.'
