There are now 33 more experts in Consciousness-Based Education in the world, recent graduates of a course for educators from 21 countries, held at Maharishi European Research University (MERU) in the Netherlands.
The goal of Consciousness-Based Education is to enliven students' full creative potential and inner happiness. It includes the study and direct experience of the field of consciousness through Transcendental Meditation.
The organization offering Consciousness-Based Education in South Africa explains that this unique system of education 'allows students to truly know themselves, to experience the field of pure consciousness, the source of thought, the Self, which is also the common basis of all fields of knowledge. This is accomplished through the simple, natural technique of Transcendental Meditation (TM), practised for a short time twice a day.'
Scientific research on Transcendental Meditation in education has found that it reduces stress, promotes integrated brain functioning, increases intelligence, and improves academic performance—among many other benefits for mental, physical, and social health and well-being.
South Africa, like the United States, United Kingdom, and many other countries in Latin America and every continent, has already found great success with the system. Now, with such an international graduating class from this training programme, Consciousness-Based Education may continue to find a home in schools in countries as disparate as Zambia, Denmark, Georgia, Mongolia, and Australia.
The two-week course offered by the International Foundation of Consciousness-Based Education provided participants with knowledge of its principles, programmes, practices, and scientific research applications, and included many workshops.
At the graduation, Dr Susan Dillbeck, President of the International Foundation of Consciousness-Based Education, described to graduates and guests Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's initiative to create schools in every nation, so that students might receive 'a complete education, founded on the full blossoming of the Self'.
'Nothing is more practical than this,' she said. 'When the Self is fully awake it is spontaneously aligned with natural law,' allowing students to fulfil their desires and transform their thoughts into successful action.
In this way the new graduates will help fulfil one of the goals of Consciousness-Based Education, to create a new generation of enlightened leadership in their countries.
