In several schools in Nepal, teachers and students are learning Transcendental Meditation, supporting their country's advancement through Consciousness-Based Education, which scientific research has shown to reduce stress, develop brain functioning, and improve academic achievement.
About five high schools have begun the process to introduce Transcendental Meditation into their curriculums.
One of the top military schools in the country has sent a few of its teachers to a Consciousness-Based Education Leadership Training Course so that when they return, the school can begin to offer education through the framework of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's Vedic Science and technology of consciousness, Transcendental Meditation.
Two schools have already taught Transcendental Meditation to their students, while one of the universities is looking to the ancient principles of Maharishi Ayur-Veda health care to inform its medical programme and another is interested in the benefits of Consciousness-Based Education.
In related news, a project designed specifically to assist women and mothers in their daily challenges and help them be sources of positive influence for their children is now underway in Nepal. With the help of the Mothers Project, over 150 women in Nepal have learned Transcendental Meditation and are enjoying the benefits.
Twenty qualified schoolteachers who practise Transcendental Meditation have elected to be trained as teachers of the meditation technique. All 20 will have schools and jobs waiting for them when they return to Nepal from the Transcendental Meditation Teacher Training Course in Thailand in November.
They will all be employed teaching Transcendental Meditation in schools, said a member of Nepal Maharishi Vedic Foundation.
In addition, faculty at several universities in the country gave a warm reception to the presentation by a visiting expert from Maharishi University of Management in the USA. A substantial number are keenly interested in the benefits of Consciousness-Based Education, including Transcendental Meditation, which is the basis of the educational system at MUM.
