On 12 September, Maharishi University of Management celebrated the 41st anniversary of its founding by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi as the flagship institution of Consciousness-Based Education in the world.

In a grand celebration in the Golden Dome on the campus in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, the MUM community enjoyed first-hand accounts by university leaders who played important roles in the establishment of Maharishi's knowledge and programmes in the United States and around the world.

Dr Robert Keith Wallace undertook pioneering research investigating the physiological effects of the Transcendental Meditation technique as a doctoral student at UCLA. His findings of a fourth major state of consciousness were the catalyst for wide-ranging research activity over the last four decades, involving hundreds of studies that led to a substantial body of published research documenting the benefits of the practice in all areas of life. Dr Wallace became the founding president of Maharishi University of Management (originally Maharishi International University—'MIU').

World-renowned quantum physicist and public policy expert Dr John Hagelin was instrumental in bringing out the connections between the knowledge of consciousness in Maharishi Vedic Science and modern quantum field theory, establishing the scientific basis for Maharishi's explanation of the field of pure consciousness as the unified field of total natural law, the Constitution of the Universe. Dr Hagelin is also president of the David Lynch Foundation and international director of the Global Union of Scientists for Peace.

Dr Bevan Morris is president of Maharishi University of Management and emeritus chair of the Board of Trustees. He is an international authority on the application of Maharishi's programmes worldwide to improve the quality of life for individuals and society. Dr Morris addressed the celebration from China with Professor Yunxiang Zhu, Associate Dean of Asian Expansion at MUM, with a report on their visit to the Far East.

The celebration concluded with a video of Maharishi's inspiring address from 30 September 1974, entitled: 'Greetings to the First Students at MIU'.
