During a recent visit to Maharishi Institute in Johannesburg, South Africa, Dr Bevan Morris found many aspects of the Institute impressive, including its campus facilities and programmes—but none more than the quality of the students themselves.
'The programme there is education that develops higher states of consciousness. The full expression of Consciousness-Based Education is there,' said Dr Morris, who is President of Maharishi University of Management and an international authority on Consciousness-Based Education.
Dr Morris met with all the students, and was deeply moved by the 'unforgettable experience' of hearing their successes with Consciousness-Based Education; their expressions of happiness and deep gratitude at being given this unprecedented educational opportunity; and their loving and supportive attitudes toward one another.
Many of these students have come from very challenging backgrounds, Dr Morris explained, and were 'longing for tertiary education' but lacked financial resources. He praised Maharishi Institute's innovative and effective 'Learn & Earn' programme through which students are loaned their tuition and pay it back over time while gaining valuable business training and experience.
The whole Institute programme 'supports students' intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual growth', its website explains—offering a 'loving, supportive, and nurturing environment in which every student naturally rises to develop their full innate potential.'
'To come into this place, to be treated in such a loving way, and to be given the experience of the Self, that inner treasure' through Transcendental Meditation and Consciousness-Based Education—'and to have all that knowledge poured out on them by excellent teachers—to these students the whole thing is like a heaven, they're so grateful for it,' Dr Morris said.
Especially compelling were students' descriptions of the tremendous progress they had seen in their personal development and evolution—the sense that 'I'm a different person than I was two years ago.'
Among many benefits they noted: loss of anxiety and fear, and growing calmness, energy, creativity, joy in living, and hope. Permeating everything they said was 'the sense that they're really going to be able to achieve something big in their lives', Dr Morris commented.
'If you showed that to any educator on the planet,' he said, 'they would be instantly, totally convinced from that alone, that Consciousness-Based Education is what every school, college, and university in the world needs immediately.'
Global Good News will continue to feature Dr Morris's visit to Maharishi Institute in South Africa, as well as other aspects of his visit to the country.
