Maharishi University of Management, USA - The Review Translate This Article
28 January 2012
Courses in travel photography and digital photography and video create opportunities for students and others to travel this spring semester as Maharishi University of Management Rotating University courses head to Mexico; Vancouver, British Columbia; and the San Juan Islands nearby.
A goal of the Rotating University courses is to develop ''international citizens'' who understand and appreciate the cultures and traditions of nations around the world.
The Mexico and Vancouver/San Juan Islands courses have a two-week, travel-only option for interested participants who are not full-time students at MUM. Financial aid may be available to some full-time students to help with the additional expenses each course entails.
Travel Photography in Mexico
First up will be a travel photography course in Mexico during the March block. The course will begin February 27 with a week on campus learning about travel photography and videography.
Then the students will travel for two weeks in the Yucatan Peninsula, applying their photography and video skills as they are surrounded by spectacular landscapes, pre-Hispanic sites, and colonial architecture.
Subjects for their photography will include indigenous festivities and ancient archeological sites such as Tulum, Chichen Itza, Sayil, Kabah and Uxmal.
The students will also be visiting natural aquarium parks with abundant marine life, offering an opportunity for snorkeling and underwater photography.
In the final week, the students will showcase their work as preparation for a public presentation.
Digital Photography in Vancouver/San Juan Islands
Finally, in a summer course that will appeal both to current and prospective students, digital photography will be a focus as the group explores the bustling metropolitan culture of Vancouver, Canada, and the serene beauty of the San Juan Islands nearby. Students will also have the option of focusing on videography.
On the Islands, the students will visit various organic farms and learn about sustainable agricultural practices, companion planting, beekeeping, beneficial insects and animals, and cultivating fruits, nuts, flowers, medicinal herbs, and vegetable crops—all with an eye to learning how to photograph these elements.
The course will include outdoor activities such as hiking, boating, kayaking, and whale watching.
