22 December 2011
'This was a big year for Maharishi Secondary School for Girls in Uganda,' reported a Transcendental Meditation teacher involved in the school.
He said that it was a good year for the Transcendental Meditation Programme in Uganda as well. There are now about 1,500 active meditators in the country.
2011 also saw the arrival of three new Transcendental Meditation teachers who are active in the capital city of Kampala. These new teachers have been active throughout the year, instructing people who want to learn the technique.
But the biggest news involves Maharishi Secondary School for Girls.
The same teacher continued, 'The Uganda government now officially supports the school with a small grant for every student. This made Maharishi Secondary School for Girls in Uganda the second Maharishi School in the world to be supported by government.'
The first was Maharishi Free School in Lancashire, England.
The support from the Uganda government is on a more modest level, so in addition the school needs to increase its enrolment to support its operation.
The teacher feels confident that Maharishi Secondary School for Girls will attract more students.
'The official government support, which is recognition of the quality of our education, will help enormously in recruiting students,' he said. Maharishi School was one of only three private schools in the district that were selected, out of 100 that applied for the programme.
In addition, this year the first graduating class just finished their exams. The exam results will come in February and will be monitored closely by parents throughout Uganda when they decide where to send their children.
If the Maharishi School students see good results, the school is likely to rapidly expand its student body in the coming years.
