Latin America: Both military and schools implement Transcendental Meditation

In one Latin American nation, the Transcendental Meditation Programme has found popularity in two very different aspects of the society. According to teachers of Transcendental Meditation, programmes implemented in both schools and the military have shown sustained success in the last few years.

The populous country has much to benefit from Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's technologies of consciousness; it has been going through many social, political, and economic transformations, and has seen disorder and violence in the past.

Transcendental Meditation teachers in the region comment that the programmes for young school children and military personnel, which focus on such different areas of life, can work together to create a positive influence throughout the whole country, helping to put the past history of turmoil and disorder to rest.

In photos of both projects, one can see young schoolchildren, around seven or eight years old, sitting in a very orderly manner and meditating at their desks. In the military projects, the photos show young men in uniform sitting very quietly and meditating together.

The programme in the schools is for promoting creative intelligence, while the army programme is for reducing destructive qualities and creating a more invincible approach to defence based on generating coherence in national consciousness through large groups meditating together.

An administrator of the Transcendental Meditation Programme in Latin America said that citizens are gradually seeing a softening and more integrated quality coming into national consciousness. He attributed this change to the coherence-creating groups of meditators and to the dedication of Transcendental Meditation teachers in the region to continue offering Maharishi's programmes.
