Maharishi University of Management Translate This Article
11 December 2011
The 2011 Distinguished Lecture series at Maharishi University of Management (MUM) continues this Sunday evening, 11 December with a presentation by Dr. Bal Ram Singh, an eminent scientist and researcher who is Director of the Center for Indic Studies, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, USA.
The title of Dr Singh's talk is ''The Chemistry of the Mind: Approaching Mind and Consciousness Physicochemically to Advance Scientific Concepts.'' Dr. Singh will draw on principles from evolution, thermodynamics, concepts of time and space, and neuronal imaging to show how Vedic concepts of consciousness can be used to enrich scientific knowledge in these fields.
At U Mass Dartmouth, Dr Singh also holds appointments as a professor in the departments of Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Biology, and Director of the Botulinum Research Center; he is also a professor in the graduate faculty at U Mass Amherst. He is Editor-in-Chief of The Botulinum Journal, and Associate Editor of the International Journal of Indian Culture and Business Management.
Dr Singh's research is internationally recognized, and he has served on many national and international scientific panels. He has published many research articles, including over three dozen scholarly articles on issues related to Indian tradition, culture, and philosophy.
Dr. Singh will be joined by a panel of MUM scientists, including: ∙ Dr. Robert Keith Wallace, Dean of Maharishi College of Perfect Health, Chair of the Department of Physiology and Health, Director of Research, ∙ Dr. Fred Travis, Dean of the Graduate School, Director of the Center for Brain, Consciousness, and Cognition ∙ Dr. Robert Schneider, Dean of the Maharishi College of Perfect Health, Director of the Institute for Natural Medicine and Prevention ∙ Dr. Alarik Arenander, Director of the Brain Research Institute ∙ Dr. Paul Morehead, Associate Chair, Department of Physiology and Health ∙ Dr. Ken Walton, Senior Research Fellow, Institute for Natural Medicine and Prevention
In May this year, Dr Schneider was invited by Dr Singh's Center for Indic Studies at U Mass Dartmouth to deliver the Patanjali Distinguished Lecture, an annual endowed event. In a workshop and public talk, Dr Schneider related Patanjali's Sutras to perfect health as described and actualized by Maharishi Ayurveda, correlating ancient Vedic Science with modern medical science.
Dr Singh's lecture Sunday evening will be held in the Argiro Student Center on the MUM campus in Fairfield, Iowa, USA.
Global Good News will report more on Dr Singh's lecture.
