6 July 2011
Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, is hosting a daylong conference 8 July for librarians from around the state. The conference is sponsored by the Iowa Library Association's Government Documents Roundtable (GODORT).
The focus is on green activists in Fairfield and other communities: how they use government and other resources to make a difference. Maharishi University of Management and its extended community is a leader in sustainability initiatives, and several MUM faculty in the Sustainable Living department are participating as panelists in the conference.
Also addressing the conference will be the Hon. Ed Malloy, Mayor of Fairfield, who has been named one of the 15 greenest mayors in the country by msn.com.
The conference will be held in the Argiro Student Center on the MUM campus—which incorporates advanced green features that will qualify it for LEED certification. It is also the first student center in the US constructed according to the ancient principles of Maharishi Vastu (Vedic architecture) for harmony with natural law.
In addition to the various presentations, the day's programme will also feature tours of the MUM Prairie Restoration Project and the new Sustainable Living Center, the University's first fully off-the-grid building, now being constructed as the new home for the Sustainable Living programme.
