The article features Atreya Dey, a senior at Maharishi School in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, who continues to garner major awards for his groundbreaking research on a new method for water purification.
Mr. Dey's awards include winning 4th place and $500 in the Environmental Management category at the prestigious Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles—a competition that included 1,500 winners of regional science fairs around the world. He also garnered a gold medal and $1,000 in the environment category at the International Sustainable World Energy, Engineering, and Environment Project Olympiad in Houston, Texas, USA.
Mr. Dey has developed a method for extracting pollutants such as heavy metals and organic compounds from water using biobased ferrite nanoparticles. Mr. Burne studied the potential of honeycomb cardboard to replace traditional materials that are used to construct walls.
