The article features Raph Burne, a student at Maharishi School in Fairfield, Iowa, USA, who for the second year in a row was selected to represent Iowa at the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) in San Diego.
At the state competition, students present their research in front of judges and an audience of 300 scientists, teachers, and students. The top five go on to represent Iowa at the National JSHS. Raph's project, 'Building Materials of the Future: Honeycomb Cardboard,' focused on replacement materials for traditional building materials.
Approximately 100 adult leaders, high school teachers, university faculty, ranking military guests, and others attended the national symposium, which encourages the future generation of scientists and engineers and celebrates student achievement in the sciences.
