Music and Consciousness: Maharishi University of Management presents symposium 13-16 May

Maharishi University of Management is hosting a weekend-long symposium on Music and Consciousness, 13-16 May 2011 on the MUM campus in Fairfield, Iowa, USA.
The symposium, hosted by the Creative Musical Arts Program at MUM, celebrates the inauguration of the International Association of Meditating Musicians (IAMM): Transcendental Meditation and Global Musicianship.
The special weekend programme is also being held to honour Grammy Award-winning musician Paul Horn, the legendary 'Father of World Music' and long-time teacher of the Transcendental Meditation Programme.
Symposium highlights
Saturday, 14 May — Symposium presentations in the morning by: ∙ Paul Horn, Grammy-Award-winning musician ∙ Ann Mortifee, singer/poet and keynote speaker ∙ Eugene Watts, founding member of the world-renowned Canadian Brass ∙ Prof. Ed Sarath, music professor at the University of Michigan and leading innovator in the fields of creativity and consciousness studies.
The afternoon features open-forum discussions on consciousness-based approaches to creating, performing, and teaching music in today's global environment. Later in the afternoon, Dr Fred Travis, Director of the Center for Brain, Consciousness, and Cognition at MUM, will speak.
Sunday, 15 May — Evening concert: Paul Horn and Friends: 'Inside the Golden Dome', also featuring Ann Mortifee, Eugene Watts, and Ed Sarath. The concert is presented by the David Lynch Foundation and the MUM music programme.
Monday, 16 May — Out-of-town educators will have the opportunity to visit Prof. Sarath's class, 'A New Approach to Music Theory'.
