US: Maharishi University of Management offers unique computer science education

The Computer Professionals Programme at Maharishi University of Management (MUM), Fairfield, Iowa, USA, is unique in that it combines three aspects: a Master's Degree in computer science, practical employment experience in an IT professional position, and personal development through the Transcendental Meditation Programme and Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme.
The CompPro programme (as it is abbreviated) is the largest degree programme at the university, with 160 to 180 students on campus each year, plus an additional 400 to 500 participating in distance education during the practical segment of their degree. The programme has attracted students from over 50 countries around the world, and over 1,000 have graduated since CompPro was launched 13 years ago.
Dr Greg Guthrie, Dean of the College of Computer Science and Math at MUM, remarked that, while most academic computer science programmes in the US will effectively train students in the areas of hardware and software, 'MUM is the only institution to impart knowledge of the developer of that technology—the Self.' This is achieved through daily practice of Transcendental Meditation and instruction in Maharishi's Science of Creative Intelligence.
The programme begins with eight months of courses on campus, followed by 16 months of Curricular Practical Training, during which students work at an IT position in the US full-time, while also continuing their coursework online.
Over 800 companies have employed MUM's CompPro students since the programme's inception, including Microsoft, IBM, General Electric, and Bank of America. Dr Guthrie commented that these companies value the unique non-technical qualities that MUM students bring to the table—such as communication skills, creativity, and flexibility—in addition to their top-notch computer aptitude.
'Personal development is key for professional success,' said Dr Guthrie, 'and MUM is unique in providing this opportunity for students in the field of computer science, to augment their technical and academic training.'
