Consciousness-Based Education was one of many programmes of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi explored in a recent, substantive article published by a major Bulgarian newspaper.

The article was based on an extended interview with Dr Bevan Morris, President of Maharishi University of Management, USA, an expert in the worldwide application of Maharishi's educational systems. Dr Morris, who is also Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace, visited Bulgaria earlier this month.

The article devotes considerable attention to Dr Morris's explanation of Consciousness-Based Education, including many countries and schools where it has been introduced. For example, in Great Britain, the Transcendental Meditation Programme has been successfully applied in one school, and will soon be in others.

Thoughtful consideration is also given to the work of filmmaker Dr David Lynch through the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace. The Foundation supports Quiet Time/Transcendental Meditation programmes to help at-risk children around the world.

The article includes quotes from Dr Lynch's book, Catching the Big Fish: Meditation, Consciousness, and Creativity.

In addition to the Consciousness-Based Education project in Rio de Janeiro,* described earlier in the article, it includes stories related by Dr Morris about other school programmes. A school in Israel was plagued by high levels of violence, but after Transcendental Meditation was introduced the violence dramatically decreased and the school earned awards as one of the best in the country. Another school, in Auckland, New Zealand, also saw a sharp decrease in violence through the programme.

The article also gives an appreciation of the Prime Minister's lifelong work in Maharishi's worldwide Transcendental Meditation organizations. Dr Morris met Maharishi in 1967 and after his education at Cambridge University in England went to study and work with him in India. For more than 40 years he has worked to spread Maharishi's knowledge and programmes, which he said 'can change the world'.
