During a tour of Africa, Dr Ashley Deans, Global Ambassador for Consciousness-Based Education, visited Kenya, Seychelles, and Tanzania, where educators, officials, and students expressed great interest in the Transcendental Meditation Programme. Dr Deans described his autumn 2010 visits in a recent report.
In Kenya, Dr Deans was interviewed on a national TV programme; the interview was long and comprehensive, and afterwards the host expressed her deep interest in the knowledge. Later, Dr Deans visited a school in Nairobi where students have already begun practising Transcendental Meditation, and a total of several hundred will be learning within this year.
In Seychelles, Dr Deans met with a leading political figure who runs several orphanages on the islands where she hopes to implement Transcendental Meditation. He also met with military and police leaders to discuss how to create invincible peace and progress for Seychelles. All of the attendees at these meetings were fascinated by Maharishi's Invincible Defence Technology. A leading official in education already practises TM and is interested in introducing the programme in all schools within the nation.
In Tanzania, where Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's programmes have recently been introduced, Dr Deans spoke with a non-governmental organization concerned with educational issues. The organization, along with a government committee on education, responded very positively to the presentation and the idea of implementing Transcendental Meditation in the nation's schools. At one school Dr Deans visited, the principal expressed interest in teaching all 20,000 students the programme.
