International Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education: Offering students all possibilities
by Global Good New staff writer

12 January 2011
Consciousness-Based Education programmes in schools around the world offer students full knowledge of knower within, so that they can know anything, do anything, and achieve anything. While enjoying their own increasing happiness and success, students also help create coherence, harmony, and progress in their nation through their group practice of the Transcendental Meditation Programme and Yogic Flying.
This is the dual purpose of Consciousness-Based Education, said Dr Susan Dillbeck, President of the International Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education, speaking on 12 January 2011. The Foundation was established in 2005 by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi to create courses, seminars, and packages offering guidance in the principles and curriculum of Consciousness-Based Education for teachers and administrators.
Maharishi wanted to offer ideal education in every country through two approaches: establishing new Consciousness-Based Education schools and implementing the programme in existing schools, Dr Dillbeck said.
Both approaches have been very successful. Dr Dillbeck highlighted India's Maharishi Vidya Mandir Schools Group with over 100,000 students as an example of the first approach, and extensive school programmes in Latin America as an example of the second.
The goal is the same in each approach: 'To give knowledge for Being*—to enable students, teachers, educators, to move from Knowing to Being,' Dr Dillbeck said.
In Consciousness-Based Education, even 'the manner of teaching itself enlivens Being,' she explained. The most important element of teaching is 'to connect whatever we are teaching to the Self, to the knowledge of the full potential of consciousness.
'In Maharishi's words: ''Then the mind does not get absorbed in the limitations of knowledge in any discipline to the extent of forgetting its own unbounded possibilities,'' ' Dr Dillbeck said.
In the coming days Global Good News will continue to feature Dr Dillbeck's discussion of Consciousness-Based Education.
