The article features Supriya Vidic, a literature major who came to Maharishi University of Management after serving six years in the U.S. Army. Rising to the rank of sergeant within two years, she received advanced telecommunications training, which led to a 15-month deployment as part of the Signal Corps in Iraq. While in Baghdad, she first worked as a telecommunications officer at the U.S. Embassy, then as project manager for her unit.

Supriya also took evening and distance education classes studying psychology. In the summer of 2010, she discovered MUM and learned the Transcendental Meditation technique.

''I worked in telecommunications, so it's really easy to get a job and make money,'' said Supriya. ''But I came to MUM because I wanted to have a good spiritual foundation; once I have that, the rest of my life will be easier.'' In her studies, Supriya is focusing on developing her writing skills and gaining experience by writing a blog about MUM veterans.
