The Danish Folk School for Development of Consciousness, Rørvig  Folkehøjskole, offers a comprehensive course in music. Taught in the context of Consciousness-Based Education, which promotes the blossoming of inner creativity, the course provides an introduction to an array of instruments, voice, music theory, and performance. Guest lecturers and performers include accomplished musicians. New courses are scheduled to begin 16 January 2011.

The course outline gives a full description of the course:

Our music course presents a basic programme that equips the student to enter and enjoy the world of rhythmic music, even without prior experience.

We offer courses in the five most important instruments of rhythmic music: piano, guitar, bass, drums, and vocal expression.

Students learn to practise and perform music as a member of a band and have the opportunity to perform for other folk high school students.

The course probes deeply into the fundamentals of music theory through knowledge of tone, intervals, scales, and chords. Students will also learn about the science of hearing, and will practise listening to simple songs, and afterwards play them on the instrument of their choice.

During the course all participants will receive vocal training through choral singing, and will experience the joy and energy of singing together with multiple voices.  

We will study both the classic and the rhythmic theory of music in order to gain a more profound understanding of the development of music and culture.  

Guest speakers and guest performances by skilled musicians form another important element of the course. Their concerts will uplift our understanding and appreciation of music to a higher level.

The course is a lot of fun and students have a great time together. Let it be underlined that no preliminary knowledge of music is required to participate; what is needed is a genuine appreciation of music and the desire to develop one's consciousness through Consciousness-Based Education.
