At the 26 June 2010 Maharishi University of Management (MUM) graduation ceremony, university president Dr Bevan Morris delivered the traditional charge to the graduates, quoting extensively Maharishi Mahesh Yogi's address to the MUM graduating class of 2003.*
Please also see Part I of this article, which features the beginning of Maharishi's historic address.
Dr Morris continued, quoting Maharishi,
'There is a proverb in Sanskrit that one moon rising in the darkness of the night is enough to bring the light everywhere—one single moon. So you will be expected to be the bright moon of your country, when now you will be going home to your countries; or if you are in the US itself, you will be the guiding light. You have that basis in the knowledge of yourself which you have achieved quietly inside yourself . . . in the Golden Domes of MUM,** and of course in the classes—all the management skills that you have gathered. Your task will be to create beautiful lotuses on the muddy pond, and that will be from within yourself.
'I am telling my experiences from 50 years working in the Movement: giving lectures, persuading people, individually training teachers, opening universities—all that. But I have come to the conclusion that now, creating the effect is necessary. This is beyond publicity, beyond lecturing, beyond talking to the people. [It is] from one's own inner self-referral consciousness, the Unified Field within oneself—this Consciousness-Based Education, Consciousness-Based health care system, Consciousness-Based agriculture, Consciousness-Based administration, Consciousness-Based defence, Consciousness-Based progress. This will bring great progress with least effort.
'There is a phrase: "Safety first". Where is the safety? The safety is not being lost in the diversity of the world. Maintain your steadfastness in your own inner silence. Be self-referral consciousness. You have all the knowledge and all the programmes for life. Be a guiding light for your entire environment, wherever you are. Wherever you are your environment will have you as a guiding light. So take the advice of your professors and parents, and make hay when the sun shines, when you are fresh in your experiences of the inner Self. Spread the light by cultivating your inner awareness more and more, day by day.'
Maharishi concluded his address to the graduating class of 2003, saying:
'Send the graduating class with cheers everywhere. Wherever they'll go they will ring the bell of eureka for themselves and for all their environment. Glory to Guru Dev. Soon we will have a beautiful world, a new history, and you will be the writers of that new history. Jai Guru Dev.'***
