Holland: More people learning Transcendental Meditation in 2010, especially in schools

26 April 2010
Holland has seen increasing numbers of people learning the Transcendental Meditation Programme in 2010, including in schools.
Within the first three months of 2010, the numbers of people learning Transcendental Meditation increased steadily, with the most learning in March, reported Dr Paul Gelderloos, National Director of Holland for the Global Country of World Peace, speaking on Maharishi Global Family Chat.*
Much of this increase, said Dr Gelderloos, has taken place within schools, of which five or six in Holland have now implemented Consciousness-Based Education. Students, teachers, administrators, and parents of students have been learning the programme in larger numbers.
Part of the inspiration for these students, parents, and staff, continued Dr Gelderloos, is the groundbreaking research of Dr Fred Travis, Director of the Center for Brain, Consciousness, and Cognition at Maharishi University of Management in Fairfield, Iowa, USA. Especially motivating has been the discovery that between ages 12 and 20 is a crucial period for development of the prefrontal cortex of the brain. Since practice of Transcendental Meditation leads to integration of the prefrontal cortex with all other areas of the brain, this is an ideal time to introduce the technique to students.
'Maharishi Mahesh Yogi always emphasized the importance of learning Transcendental Meditation between the ages 12 and 20, but now we have concrete scientific research to support this recommendation, thus inspiring parents and teachers to adopt the programme in schools,' explained Dr Gelderloos.
Dr Gelderloos expects more of the nation's schools to express interest in Consciousness-Based Education within the coming months, and that more of the students will begin practising the advanced Transcendental Meditation Sidhi Programme, including Yogic Flying.
* Dr Gelderloos's report was featured on the 23 April 2010 Maharishi Global Family Chat, broadcast daily via Internet webcast on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3. Podcasts of the daily Global Family Chat (audio track) are also now available for automatic download, via an RSS feed.
