The Venerable Bhikkhu Sanghasena, founder of the Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre in Ladakh*, India, recently visited the International Capital of the Global Country of World Peace Peace in Meru, Netherlands, to plan for the introduction of Maharishi's Programmes in the schools and monasteries in Ladakh. His Holiness is known for his great leadership in humanitarian works and in the preservation of the Buddhist traditions.
Mahabodhi International Meditation Centre maintains a large monastery for Buddhist monks and nuns, a school with 500 students, a hospital of 50 beds, and a home for the elderly and disabled. On a previous visit to Meru, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Founder of the Global Country of World Peace, fondly conferred upon him the title, 'His Holiness Bodhisattva'.
'It is our sincere wish to have a close collaboration and friendship with all of you', His Holiness Bodhisattva told the assembly of dignitaries at the International Capital, 'and to work together to spread peace and harmony through the petitions of Lord Buddha as well as His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. We very much look forward for the Transcendental Meditation programme to be started.' His Holiness Bodhisattva delighted the viewers with two documentaries of the breathtaking beauty of the high Himalayan area of Ladakh and the beautiful home he has created for the monks and students.
Dr Bevan Morris, Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace, praised His Holiness for his work. 'We really see exactly why Maharishi gave you this beautiful title. Maharishi has said that the teaching of Lord Buddha and his own teaching are the same teaching. All the seven states of consciousness for example, ranging up to the supreme state of Nirvana, Pari-nirvana, Unity Consciousness, are fundamental to Buddhism. And Maharishi in recent years, with Maharaja Adhiraja Raja Raam, brought out that in the human physiology, Lord Buddha has been located, seated in the brain, sitting under the Bodhi tree.'
Dr Morris offered support and resources to assist His Holiness Bodhisattva in achieving the goals of his Meditation Centre. 'We will be delighted to be of any help and support to you in the wonderful goals of your organization, which we see has so many dimensions that you describe in this documentary. We have now seen the wonderful children of the Mahabodhi International School. All these different programmes, the health programmes and programmes for people who are suffering, beautiful programmes that you have designed. Maharishi has much to offer that could enrich these programmes. We are absolutely ready to provide help to Ladakh and to the great work you are doing. We are so impressed by it.'
*Ladakh is in the Himalayan region of northern India, at 11,500 feet above sea level.
