Recently speaking on Maharishi Global Family Chat, Raja Peter Warburton, Raja of Great Britain for the Global Country of World Peace discussed the literature on Consciousness-Based Education, and how he has adapted this literature for presentation to British educators.
Raja Peter showed slides of an eight-page general presentation leaflet, titled Transcendental Meditation in Schools. The leaflet, adapted from American brochures, has proved very helpful in defining to educators and parents the Transcendental Meditation Technique and its many benefits, such as improved academic achievement and prevention of stress.
Among the other benefits detailed in the brochure are enhanced brain functioning and creativity and reduced blood pressure among pupils. 'Research has shown that high blood pressure at early ages is a precursor to cardiac problems later in life,' explained Raja Peter. 'The Transcendental Meditation Technique is very effective in reducing this common health risk.'
Further on in the leaflet, Raja Peter shared statements from three great educators, which included Dr Ashley Deans, head of the Maharishi School in Fairfield, Iowa, USA; Derek Cassells, head of the Maharishi School in Skelmersdale, England; and Dr George Rutherford, a highly renowned expert educator from Washington, DC.
Raja Peter presented another brochure, one primarily for educators, based on an American brochure prepared by Raja Michael Dilbeck and Dr Susie Dilbeck. 'This brochure presents a concise introduction to research on Consciousness-Based Education,' said Raja Peter, 'clearly indicating the benefits of the Transcendental Meditation Technique in schools.'
Featured studies, displayed in the form of charts and summaries, include those on improvement in academic skills, faster reaction time, decreased health care expenditure, increased self-concept, as well as enhanced well-being and behaviour. 'Some of these studies we present in more depth,' commented Raja Peter, 'which educators appreciate.'
Another section of this brochure shows the benefits of Consciousness-Based Education for teachers. As Raja Peter commented, 'Teaching has become a very stressful occupation in Great Britain, so much so that teachers have even begun to retire early.' When teachers learn the Transcendental Meditation Technique, said Raja Peter, they experience increased creativity, inner calm, and improved relationships in their work and personal lives.
Finally, the brochure includes the benefits of Consciousness-Based Education for society as a whole. The effects on society, explained Raja Peter, are displayed through meta-analysis, which is the combination of multiple research findings into one study. 'Through the practice of the Transcendental Meditation Programme and Yogic Flying,' said Raja Peter, 'Maharishi School pupils will bring the whole nation to invincibility. This will be a living memorial to Maharishi.' He also mentioned plans for the construction of Maharishi Towers of Invincibility in the capital cities of Great Britain.
In conclusion, Raja Peter stated that with this literature, Directors of the Global Country of World Peace in different regions of Great Britain will have all the information they need in order to introduce Consciousness-Based Education into schools.
