School student wins top award for mime at state event
The M.U.M. Review Maharishi University of Management, Iowa, USA Translate This Article
18 March 2008
Maharishi School senior David Boyle brought home the State Banner for Solo Mime last month at the Iowa High School Speech Association's annual All State Speech Festival.
Under the direction of John and Elaine Speer and their team of coaches, 40 students participated in the 2008 Iowa High School Speech Association's annual competition. They received outstanding ratings at the state and all-state levels.
The Maharishi School speech competition entries will be performed by the students at the Maharishi School fundraiser at the Henry Ogden Clark Auditorium on April 18.
Besides Mr. Boyle, a 'TV News' team comprising Emily Wofford, John De Angelis, Ty Huggins, Jordan Stakland, Josh Posner, and Yale Shaw was selected to perform at the festival.
The Acting Ensemble team of Ryan Stakland and Holden Ketterhagen received honorable mention but did not perform.
Mr. Boyle's winning mime was the first he had ever attempted. He was coached by Thomas Selleck, who studied mime in Paris with Marcel Marceau's teacher, Etienne Decroux.
'David is a natural mime and picked up the technique I taught him very easily,' Mr. Selleck said. 'He radiates energy and excitement, and I am not surprised that he brought home the banner.'
